Our Services
Vineyards
European Starlings and House sparrows are particularly attracted to vineyards. The birds are constantly in the area testing the fruit until it reaches a stage whereby it is edible to these pest birds. Large flocks of these birds can devastate a vineyard losing thousands of dollars a day feeding birds rather than making wine.
Our falcons brought in two weeks prior to the grapes being edible and continuing until the harvest has ended can be flown in such a way to prevent this from happening.
Falcons in the air, project a cone, a ‘bubble of space’ that is bird free. No pest bird will risk entering this cone and this behavior is hard wired into their brains.
Using Airstrike Bird Control to protect agriculture is a sustainable, chemical-free and non-polluting way of safeguarding your production.
Blueberries
The blueberry is perhaps the most perfectly desirable food for pest birds. Blueberries are nourishing, sweet and easy to grab. Sparrows, Starlings and Crows are particularly attracted to this crop.
Blueberries are such a draw for pest birds that data shows that an unprotected field can lose 20 – 80% of the crop. Even netted fields can lose 8 – 10% of the crop.
Falcons must be flown more intensely than on other crops. Several Falcons are required, preferably of different species, in order to convince pest birds to just “move on”.
Orchards
Pest birds on orchards, pose a different challenge than any other crop. With Blueberries and grapes, the pest bird can destroy one grape or one blueberry at a time. With cherries, apples, almonds the fact that the bird has broken the integrity of the fruit means that the value of that fruit plummets.
We at Airstrike Bird Control understand this and our trained birds and falconers will work with you in order to provide a safe, effective, sustainable method of maximizing your crop yield.
Crop protection
Airstrike Bird control is the premier provider of crop protection services in the western US. Blueberries, grapes and apples are the usual crops that falconry is effective against, however nuts, cherries and strawberries are all crops that have been successfully protected using the centuries old techniques of falconry.
Food Processing
Vineyards, orchards and landfills, all are wide open areas that allow falcons to fly to the best of their ability in deterring nomadic flocks of pest birds.
Food processing plants are different, the pest birds know where the food is and they do not have an ‘off season’.
The birds are attracted to the food or shelter of a processing plant and this means that we at Airstrike Bird Control have to adapt to differing systems, other than those traditionally used for more open areas.
Given this knowledge we have successfully treated clients in many different types of processing plants in several states.
Landfills
The bird problem on landfills is different from that of crops. Here the pest bird is different – generally Seagulls, and sometimes Crows. And the problem is not protecting a valuable crop, the problem is protecting the neighboring area from bird droppings.
Falcons and Hawks are flown during daylight hours on the days the landfill is open and uncovered. Landfills also benefit from the use of noisemakers such as “screamers”, “whistlers” and caps. But the use of such noisemakers is dependent upon the proximity of neighbors.
Some landfills have a year-round bird abatement problem, for others it is seasonal and dependent upon migratory patterns. Migratory birds are protected by various international treaties and conventions, so it’s important that any abatement be performed in a legal manner.
Medical and hospital
Airstrike Bird control has been employed in several hospitals.
Job Sites
Sites, in the process of being built, birds came into the area at night to roost and the resultant droppings held up work until the droppings could be cleaned up. A nasty and expensive job, costing time and money.
In hospitals that are already built, the HEPA filtration system can be clogged with pigeon droppings. If this happens the replacement of the HEPA filters is expensive and inefficient. Using birds of prey in the area means you can get the most out of these systems, saving time money and effort.
Commercial and industrial
Commercial and industrial complexes, industrial plants and office spaces all present different challenges that only with years of experience can be treated effectively, safely and expediently.
Our clients range from office complexes and glass makers to auto dealerships, municipal buildings and resorts.
Each individual client is different; the problem is always the same.
Airstrike Bird Control has the experience, on the front end of the falconers staffing the site, the falcons bred in house, and the support staff to ensure that your site receives the best and most effective solution for your bird control challenges.
Refineries and Distilleries
Both food grade and oil refineries have enjoyed the protection that birds of prey can offer. These areas are a large draw for starlings, pigeons and sparrows. The droppings from these birds can be corrosive, eating away the insulation on the pipework, making stairwells unsafe and generally making the entire area unsanitary. With a food grade refinery this is obviously not acceptable.
